Seriously, education is the answer, so what is your question?
One of the peak experiences of my life was spending a week with Stephen Haines before he died. Stephen was one of the early founders of modern strategic planning, and I use many elements of his systems approach in my strategic planning work.
Part of his training program included a simple causal chain to success that I think is brilliant:
· How you think leads to
· How you feel, which leads to
· How you act, which leads to
· The results you get
Good education teaches you HOW to think, not WHAT to think. It improves your critical thinking/discernment skills. This means that you can consider all possibilities and discern fact from fiction (your world view). This empowers you as a leader to make the best decisions for sustained success in your business.
This is very important, because most of our daily emotions are created by our thinking. For example, you should always be afraid of stepping in front of a moving bus because that’s a real danger, but maybe you don’t need to be afraid of being more assertive and powerful in your life. Maybe those fears are unrealistic because they are rooted in prior experiences in an environment that no longer exists (insert “childhood trauma” here).
Every good salesperson knows that prospects tend to buy on emotion and then rationalize with facts (Zig Ziglar). People prefer to buy from people they like and trust (feelings) as long as the salesperson has a product that meets their needs (facts).
Emotions tend to lead to action, and thinking tends to just lead to more thinking. So, after your emotions lead you to act, reengage those brilliant discernment skills of yours again to make great decisions for your business.
